Last Tuesday was a Public Holiday since it is the national day of the UAE. We spent the entire day at the amusement park in Uptown Mirdif with friend T and her son. On Friday, I and husband managed to look around for a new car, which took a few hours. In the afternoon we went to Global Village. It is a combined amusementpark and an outdoor market, with large pavillions from different countries, mostly from the Middle East. Everything from furniture to food, clothes, jewellery and fake handbags could be found. Global Village is only open during the winter months, otherwise it would be too hot to stroll around. I will definitely go back and look for some furniture or carpets. On Saturday, we were supposed to see the Christmas Tree Lighting in Irish Village, a pub- and restaurant area near the airport. But since this coincided with Eid al Adha, the Christmas ligthing was postponed two days. It is custom that no alchohol is served the day before Eid al Adha and an Irish Village with no beer... well you can imagine... Unfortunately, we had already arrived there so we ended up having a good non- alcoholic meal and then continued our own celebration at the hotel with good friends.
The past three days have been crazy. We have been running around in different furniture mall, IKEA included and bought dining table with chairs, a bed, bookshelves, a bathroom shelf, anything one can imagine. We also managed to buy a car, a Toyota Prado, and some other useful items. Yesterday, our container with furniture from Singapore arrived to our new house and we spent the entire day unpacking. It is remarkable how fast you forget about things you once reckoned being quite important to you... I unpacked several things I barely remembered having bought in the first place! Most things in the kitchen found their place but there are a heap of boxes with books and other things, waiting for a nice spot...! After walking up and down in our three storey house, my legs are aching, very embarrasing. But this will be good excercise for me, who needs a gym card??? At least one more week of logistics awaits before we can move in, dining table will arrive tomorrow, along with bed, appliances on Saturday, IKEA next week, internet some day this week, curtains next week...etc etc.. But it will be very nice and I cant wait until we can leave this hotel room!
