London

Christmas decorations outside of Selfridge's

Portobello Road

Lucky me got to spend five wonderful, cold and snowy days in a Christmas spirited London last week! I and best friend A, who flew in from Singapore and stayed the night here in Dubai before we flew off to London the day after. London greeted us with cold weather, from its absolutely best side. Clear blue sky, crisp air, Christmas decorations everywhere and people in their best Christmas mood! We walked up and down Portobello Road, admired the jewellery and the funky fashion in Camden, had a lovely Chinese meal next to the radiator to defrost our poor frozen bodies. We spent hours in Ealing road, buying the latest Bollywood movies and music and had a touristy pizza meal at Covent Garden in the afternoon. Oxford street took two days since I had to literally visit every shop. Same shops as in Dubai, but the fashion is different. Came home with bags from Primark (bless that shop) and Dorothy Perkins, Christmas gifts from Portobello Road and a cardigan from Camden.

We took buses and enjoyed the tube, had a coffee at Harrod's and a nice meal at an Italian restaurant not far away from Kensington High Street, where the waiter topped up my wine glass not only once but three times, for free!!!

My last purchase was a black "Miami" handbag from Harrod's at the airport and the latest novel by Marian Keyes. Amazing days, lots of shopping, laughter, nice meals and a Bollywood movie at home one night when we were simply too tired to go out again!

Thanks A, for a wonderful time!

The second of December and the UAE National Day. That means a day off from work, family time at the beach and cooler weather! We spent the day at the lovely Le Meridien. This hotel is a bit older but has still kept its charm! Conveniently located just right on the beach and with a wonderful view over the Palm Jumeirah, it is still one of the top hotels in Dubai! It is also host of one of the coolest and most popular beach clubs in Dubai. A place that offers anything from shisha on the beach to dancing on one of the many dance floors or a superb meal in the terrace restaurant.
